Request a New Club

Needham High School Extracurricular Activities

NHS Extracurricular Activities Purpose Statement: Extracurricular activities at Needham High School are an integral component of the comprehensive educational environment and provide students with opportunities to develop social and emotional competencies, teamwork, leadership, creativity, and service to the community. Student clubs and activities enable students to be self-aware, to have social relationship skills, to self manage, and to make responsible decisions. New clubs must align with this purpose statement.

Requesting a New Club

Before you submit a request for a new NHS club:

1. Determine if a similar club already exists

Please look at the Directory of existing clubs to see if there is a current club that aligns with your interest.  Sometimes joining an existing club can have a bigger impact than starting up a brand new club.

2. Find out if others would like to join you

Start a list of students who share your interest and would like to join the club. Try to recruit students in multiple grades if possible. Consider having a meet-up after school to recruit new members.

3. Plan Your Club

Once you have decided that you would like to request a new club, take some time to plan out the details of the club. How does the club align with the overall Extracurricular Activity Purpose Statement above? Who will be the club advisor? When will the club meet?

4. Complete the New Club Request Form

Form

5. Make an Appointment

After you submit the form, you will be sent a copy of your New Club Request Form along with a SignUpGenius link. Please sign up for a meeting time. The purpose of the meeting is to speak with administration and student leaders about the new club request.

6. What to Expect During the Meeting
You will have approximately 10 minutes to show (1) slide and answer questions about your new club proposal. Please come prepared to answer the following:

  • What is the purpose of the proposed club?
  • What does this club bring to NHS?
  • How is it different from existing clubs?
  • What would a typical meeting look like?
  • What is your role in the club as a leader?
  • What is the role of your club advisor?
  • How sustainable is the club?
